Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit stressed on Thursday that the pan-Arab body is ready to exert efforts to back peace and stability in Sudan.
He welcomed the meeting of representatives of the national Sudanese parties and said the League would host any meetings if asked to by the Sudanese sides.
Abul Gheit gave the remarks during a meeting with Deputy head of the Democratic Unionist Party Jafar el Mirghani who handed him a copy of the Political Declaration that was signed on October 8 as regards constitutional arrangements.
Spokesman for the Arab League Secretary General Gamal Roshdi said Abul Gheit listened to underway efforts to address the big challenges facing the transitional period at all levels in order to achieve a democratic transition through holding a comprehensive national dialogue among all factions.
Abul Gheit welcomed the party’s rejection of attempts to exclude the Arab League from its role in backing peace and stability in Sudan.
