Arab League expresses condolences to Syrian, Turkish peoples over quake victims 1 - Egyptian Gazette

CAIRO – The Arab League Economic and Social Council (ESC) expressed condolences and solidarity with the Syrian and Turkish people over the large number of casualties caused by the devastating quake that hit the two countries this week.

In a statement issued at the end of the 111th session of ESC held at the Arab League premises under the chairmanship of Mauritanian, the council offered its sincerest condolences to the Syrian and Turkish people over the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The catastrophic earthquake that razed thousands of buildings in Turkey and Syria became one of the deadliest quakes worldwide in more than a decade and the death toll kept rising, approaching 20,000.

Rescue crews braved freezing overnight temperatures in quake-hit areas in both countries in the hope of reaching survivors and pulling more bodies from the rubble.
