Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli forces’ storming of the courtyards of Al Aqsa Mosque and assaulting worshipers and arresting over 400 Palestinians.
In a statement on Wednesday, Abul Gheit called on the international community, represented by the UN member states, to swiftly act on putting an end to this serious escalation, a matter that threatens to ignite the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
He called on the Israeli government to respect the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan and to stop these provocative actions that would inflame the feelings of anger.
Abul Gheit warned against the consequences of the internal political crisis in Israel on the Palestinian people, stressing that those who take control of the policy of the Israeli government will lead to wide confrontations with the Palestinians, if not put an end to it.
