AP president says humanitarian action pillar of security, stability 1 - Egyptian Gazette

CAIRO – President of the Arab Parliament (AP) Adel bin Abdel Rahman al-Assoumi said Monday that humanitarian action is the main pillar of support for security and stability of communities.

Humanitarian action is also a key to achieving sustainable development, Assoumi said in a statement to mark World Humanitarian Day, which falls on August 19.

He urged concerted humanitarian action amid severe repercussions of difficult and exceptional circumstances in some countries.

Assoumi cited the Arab humanitarian role to deliver assistance to people harmed in wars and conflicts, such as in Gaza, regardless of any other considerations.

Unfortunately, humanitarian action in Gaza is at risk given attempts to undermine the role played by UNRWA – an important and indispensable arm of humanitarian response in the besieged enclave, the AP president regretted.

Assoumi called for intensifying humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people under the brutal Israeli occupation.
