Assistant Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Rashid Khattabi condemned the systematic oppressive practices of the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian journalists, citing physical aggression, confiscation of equipment, blocking sites and banning the internet.
In a statement on Thursday on the Arab Media Day, Khattabi raised questions about necessary guarantees for journalists to accomplish their mission in safe environment and needed mechanism for protecting journalists in the times of conflict.
The Arab Media Day is marked this year in coincidence with the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip that left behind thousands of casualties, he said, noting that 209 journalists were killed since the commencement of the war in Gaza on October 8, 2023.
He lauded the painstaking efforts of the Palestinian media to cover the catastrophic situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
