BEIRUT – Assistant secretary-general of the Arab League (AL) Hossam Zaki said Friday that the constitutional entitlements in Lebanon require more coordination and consultations among Lebanese politicians to reach an agreement, which could get the country back on the right track.
Zaki’s comments came after his meeting with Lebanon’s Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
The AL official reiterated the Arab League’s support for Lebanon, especially in light of the nearing presidential election.
Zaki said that he held meetings with the country’s main parliamentary blocs, including the Free Patriotic Movement, the Lebanese Forces, Kataeb Party, the Progressive Socialist Party, and Amal Movement, pointing out that despite the discrepancies in their positions, they agreed on the importance of the presidential election.
About his visit to Lebanon, Zaki said: “there was news about the border demarcation agreement between Lebanon and Israel, and we’ve voiced the Arab League’s full support for the Lebanese position, which aims to preserve Lebanon’s economic sea rights.”
