CAIRO – Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit has ordered that an AL mission be formed under his assistant Khalil Ibrahim el-Zawadi to oversee the parliamentary elections in Jordan, slated for September 10.
A statement by the AL general secretariat said Monday that the pan-Arab body is keen on supporting democracy and good governance in all Arab countries.
The AL mission will meet with all the parties concerned with the parliamentary elections in Jordan, atop of which the independent polling authority, with the aim to get firsthand information about efforts exerted to organize the voting process, read the statement.
It added that the mission will issue a preliminary statement underlining its initial remarks about the observation process.
A final report will be referred to the AL chief, including detailed remarks about the voting and recommendations to improve future ballots, the statement said. It added that Jordan will receive a copy of the report in a later stage.
