The Arab League (AL) participated Monday in the Ministerial Meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee for Palestine held in the Belgian capital Brussels upon instruction of AL’s Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit.

The pan-Arab body’s delegation was headed by Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector ambassador Faid Mustafa.

The delegation also included head of the League’s Mission in Brussels Jawad Kazem Hindawi and First Secretary Sharifa Choudar from Brussels mission.

The meetings – held at the headquarters of the European Commission – brought together representatives from more than sixty countries and international institutions.

Among the participants were Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Mustafa and Palestinian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Stephane Salameh, along with a number of European foreign ministers.

In his address on behalf of the General Secretariat, the head of the Palestine and occupied Arab territories sector conveyed greetings of the AL’s Secretary-General, stressing that supporting Palestinian people is “a principled, moral and political stance.”

Mustafa emphasized the importance of the meeting sending a strong message that the international community would not stand idle in the face of measures aimed at suffocating the Palestinian economy and depriving the government of its legitimate resources.

He added that providing urgent support to Palestine in these circumstances is not only a humanitarian duty, but also an investment in regional stability and the advancement of peace prospects – prospects that cannot be realized as long as political and economic pressures on the Palestinian people continue.
