Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit and Commissioner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi discussed here on Monday various issues concerning refugees in Arab countries.
Grandi reviewed with Abul Gheit the status of refugees in Arab countries, specifically the Sudanese to fled their country in the wake of the armed conflict that erupted mid-April, Arab League Spokesman Gamal Roushdi said.
The UN official posted Abul Gheit on his visit to the Egyptian-Sudanese borders and the Kostol border crossing where he met with those who fled to Egypt due to the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces.
Egyptian authorities were cooperative in dealing with the influx of the Sudanese refugees who have surpassed 160,000 since the outbreak of the conflict, Grandi said.
Abul Gheit affirmed the importance of the UNHCR support to countries receiving refugees.
They also discussed the status of Syrian refugees in various Arab countries, especially in Lebanon and Jordan, the Arab League spokesman added.
