CAIRO – Secretary General of the Arab League (AL) Ahmed Abul Gheit on Monday had a meeting with UN Special Envoy to Libya Stephanie Williams to probe the latest developments in the North African Arab country.
The secretary general was briefed on political and field developments in Libya and the details on the meeting of the Libyan Constitutional Committee, comprising members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, which wrapped up its meeting on Monday in Cairo under the sponsorship of the UN.
During their meeting, Abul Gheit and Williams also exchanged viewpoints on possible impact of such developments on the international arena and the Middle East and the North African region, a source of the Arab League secretariat said.
Abul Gheit reaffirmed the AL’s support for UN efforts aiming to settle the Libyan crisis, the source added.
