CAIRO – The Arab League (AL) General Secretariat has urged the UN Security Council to take quick measures to end the Israeli aggression and genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
In a statement Wednesday to mark the 76th anniversary of the Nakba, the pan-Arab body reiterated the international, legal and moral responsibility of the Security Council in maintaining world peace and security, and avoiding double-standard policies.
It pressed for serious, clear and firm moves to oblige the Israeli occupation authority to stop its war and violations in Gaza, and heed world community calls to achieve just peace that allows the Palestinian people to restore their rights and establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
This year’s anniversary coincides with Israel’s genocide in Gaza that started seven months ago and left more than 120,000 Palestinians dead, injured and missing, not to mention the displacement of the residents of the besieged enclave, the statement said.
The destruction of the Gaza Strip and the heinous crimes committed against its people constitute confirmed evidence of Israel’s bloody practices that have been adopted ever since 1948, it added.
