ALGIERS – Arab League Assistant Secretary General Ambassador Hossam Zaki said a number of draft projects and decisions included on the agenda of the Arab League Summit in Algiers have been finalized.
The AL official’s remarks were made at the end of a meeting grouping the permanent delegates of the Arab League on Thursday.
In press statements, Zaki said a number of draft projects will be referred to the preparatory meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers, which is due on Saturday, and such projects would be ready for floating to the Arab leaders during the Arab summit, set for November 1 and 2.
On the Libyan crisis, Ambassador Zaki pointed out that prolonged dialogues have been held and the decisions are complying with the outcome of previous meetings held by the Arab foreign ministers in December, 2021.
Regarding the Syrian crisis, the AL official said this issue has been referred to the Arab foreign ministers to be deliberated as it was not settled among the permanent delegates.
On the Iranian interventions, Zaki said there is an item included in the Arab Summit agenda regarding the seriousness of Iran’s interventions in the Arab states’ affairs and the Arab national security.
Responding to a question on the level of representation at the coming Arab summit, Zaki said he was informed by the hosting country that the level of representative will be good and that the summit would witness a large-scale Arab representation.
On the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, Ambassador Zaki said there is a draft project that was submitted by Egypt and Sudan and has been ratified along with other proposals that have been filed to the Arab foreign ministers in this regard.
Zaki also said that there is a draft project on the Arab Summit’s support to the UN Climate Conference (COP27), which is due in Sharm El Sheikh in November.
He also noted that an Arab strategy for achieving food safety have been floated at the Arab permanent delegates meeting and discussions will be resumed by the Economic and Social Council meeting at the ministerial level on Friday.
