Baku – Bahjat Al Wakeel
Historical architectural monuments, residential settlements and ancient tombs existing in the Agdam District of Azerbaijan are rare styles reflecting different historical centuries.
According to representative of Agdam District Executive Authority Bashir Hajiyev, the history of some of these settlements, which have survived to the present day, dates back to the Eneolithic period.
By the decision of the prime minister of Azerbaijan No. 132 dated August 2, 2001, these monuments were systematised and listed as of local and world importance.
It should be noted that Agdam, the city of dreams in Azerbaijan, is ready to attract foreign investment after its liberation and reconstruction.
Bashir Hajiyev says that Agdam district was established in 1930.
Covering an area of 21,450 feddans, Agdam is considered one of the most important regions of Azerbaijan. It is located at the junction of the Nagorno-Karabakh and plain Karabakh.
It covers an area of 1,150 square metres and includes 65 settlements.
The district of Aghdam, one of seven territories occupied along with the Nagorno-Karabakh region, has been returned to Azerbaijan in November 2020 after 27 years of Armenia’s occupation.
As a result of research conducted in the area called Uchoglan hill in the district, it was proved that primitive man settled here 4000-6000 years BC.
According to Hajiyev, President Ilham Aliyev attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the new city of Agdam and laid the foundation stone for the largest industrial zone in the area of 190 feddans.
Along with smart villages, forest parks, museums of Islamic monuments, Azerbaijan is trying to attract foreign investments to build a railway, an international airport to connect the city of Agdam with other tourist districts.
Bashir Hajiyev noted that there were thousands of apartments and cultural centres in Agdam.
More than 450,000 people lived in Agdam, considered to be a vital trading centre.
However, the occupation destroyed all these houses and cultural centres, and people were expelled.
They kept various animals in the mosques there. In particular, thousands of tonnes of animal manure were removed from the Agdam mosque, which was built between 1868 and 1872.
The mosque was renamed the Juma Mosque. The Sunnis and Shi’ites perform religious rites together inside the mosque. It is the only Islamic country where the representatives of these two sects pray together without any discrimination or bigotry.
The official of the executive authority of Agdam added that the city will become a turning point in the life of Azerbaijan to open investment prospects.
The city will be the most important one in terms of attracting foreign investment and having an access to world markets.
