Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit has offered his sincerest condolences to Yemen on the death of its great poet Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Maqaleh, who died Monday in Sana’a at the age of 85 years.
In a tweet, Abul Gheit said: “I offer my sincere condolences to the culture and literature communities in the Arab countries on the departure of Dr Abdulaziz Al Maqaleh, praying for God to reward him for his contributions in the service of the Arabic language and poetry”.
Over the course of his life experience, Maqaleh received several prizes including the Arab Culture Prize, UNESCO in Paris 2002. He also won the Knight Prize of the first degree in literature and arts from the French government in 2003. The Yemeni poet also won the Arab Culture Award from the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science (ALESCO) in 2004. He worked as head of the Yemeni Studies and Research Center until his death.
