LONDON ― WhatsApp is currently rolling out a new feature which allows users to create custom stickers using artificial intelligence (AI).
According to leaker site WABetaInfo, the option to create AI stickers is available for select users in the messaging app’s beta programme, specifically in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.17.14 update.
It reports that the option to create these stickers will appear in the stickers section of chats, with a button that says “create” when the tab is opened.
Once the button is selected, users will be able to enter a prompt of what it is supposed to generate, which can then be shared in the conversation.
According to a statement from a Meta spokesperson given to Engadget, AI-powered tools from the company may be tested publicly as they are being developed.
“Our generative AI-powered experiences are under development in varying phases, and we’re testing a range of them publicly in a limited capacity.
“We have nothing further to share at this time,” they said.
Similar AI-powered sticker tools have previously been reported to be in the works for other Meta social media platforms as well, including both Facebook and Instagram.
