SAN FRANCISCO ― Users can now create avatars or a digital version of themselves on WhatsApp.
The company announced that users can create an avatar from a wide range of hairstyles, facial features and outfits.
“We’re bringing avatars to WhatsApp! Now you can use your avatar as a sticker in chats. More styles coming soon across all our apps,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO.
The personalised avatars can be used as profile pics or to express different actions and emotions through one of 36 custom stickers. Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, said it will deliver style enhancements such as lighting, shading and hair style textures over time.
The feature was first reported by WABetaInfo in October where screenshots showed that users can access the feature under Settings. They can click on a tab that says “Avatar” to get started.
WhatsApp also recently announced that users can now send messages to themselves.
The feature may come in handy for those who want to send reminders and even content like photos to help them remember certain events. It also introduced a poll feature to help users make decisions in group conversations.
