Eng. Hossam El-Gamal, the Executive President of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Egypt (NTRA), was chosen by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to become a member of the Digital Innovation Board subordinate to ITU, in its first form acknowledged by the ITU in February 2024.
The board consists of twenty-three international technology and digital transformation figures, selected out of more than 400 members representing governments, international organizations and private sector across the 193 ITU-member states.
ITU-Digital Innovation Board’s major goal is to accelerate the process of digital innovation at the local, regional and international levels for ITU member states.
It also aims to empower the member states to take on the challenges encountered in digital transformation, and foster entrepreneurship by establishing partnerships among governments, international organizations and private sector, to build an inclusive as well as sustainable digital society.
It’s noteworthy that Eng. Hossam El-Gamal took part with NTRA to achieve a number of local as well as international innovation milestones; such as, choosing NTRA by ITU, among 3 entities worldwide, as a global hub for innovation and sustainable digital transformation and My NTRA app, previously launched by NTRA, among the top 5 global projects in digital governance.
Meanwhile, NTRA had also moved up 54 positions on the ITU-ICT Regulatory Tracker, occupying the 41st ranking out of 193 states.
Moreover, Eng. Hossam El-Gamal was also chosen to become a member of the Digital Innovation Board in recognition of his active participation in many international events organized by ITU, the last of which was presiding the Global Symposium for Regulators (ITUGSR23) hosted by Egypt during June 5-8, 2023.
