As the automotive industry embraces software-defined vehicles, the demand for specialized software professionals has surged, particularly with the growing adoption of Android Automotive by major global automakers. Despite limited training programs across the Middle East and Africa (MEA), Egypt has emerged as a regional leader in addressing this talent gap.
In a groundbreaking partnership with DXC Luxoft, the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), and the Information Technology Institute (ITI), Egypt has launched the first-ever certified Android Automotive training program in the MEA region. This initiative not only provides skilled professionals for the automotive software industry but also reinforces Egypt’s growing reputation as a key player in global technology innovation.
Pioneering Training for a New Era in Automotive Software
The Android Automotive Training Program, launched in July 2024, equips the next generation of engineers with the critical skills needed for success in the rapidly evolving automotive software sector. The first cohort, consisting of 28 graduates, has now achieved certification and secured employment at DXC Luxoft, underscoring the program’s tangible impact on both local talent development and industry growth.
Spanning six months, the program covers essential technical skills in Linux, C++, Kotlin, Cybersecurity, and platform integration, offering specialized expertise in Android Auto and Android Automotive OS. These graduates are now among the highly sought-after professionals driving innovation in one of the world’s most advanced technology sectors.
Government Leadership Driving Digital Empowerment
Dr. Amr Talaat, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, attended the graduation ceremony and highlighted the program’s alignment with Egypt’s broader national strategy to empower youth with future-ready skills. “This initiative reflects our commitment to nurturing Egypt’s digital talent and establishing our position as a global hub for high-value services in automotive software and beyond. By addressing global industry needs, we are enabling Egyptian youth to access premium job opportunities while contributing to economic growth,” said Dr. Talaat.
The event was attended by distinguished leaders, including Mr. Loth G. Mauch, Executive Vice President of Luxoft, and Dr. Michael Dinkel, Senior Vice President of Automotive Engineering at DXC Luxoft, who emphasized the importance of this program in shaping the future of automotive software development.
Egypt’s Strategic Position as a Global Talent Hub
DXC Luxoft’s decision to anchor its Android Automotive operations in Egypt highlights the country’s increasing appeal as a destination for global tech companies. With a dynamic, multilingual workforce and over 730,000 university graduates annually—many specializing in IT and engineering—Egypt offers a vast pool of skilled professionals at competitive costs. Furthermore, its proximity to Europe positions Egypt as an ideal location for scalable innovation in the automotive and tech sectors.
Unlocking Investment and Innovation in Egypt’s Tech Ecosystem
The success of this program underscores the critical role of public-private partnerships in fostering innovation and job creation. ITIDA’s strategic support has been pivotal in aligning talent development with industry demands, ensuring that Egypt remains at the forefront of the automotive software sector. Eng. Ahmed El Zaher, CEO of ITIDA, stated, “The automotive software industry is undergoing a significant transformation. Tailored programs like this one not only meet industry demands but also position Egypt as a leader in this transformative field.”
Beyond automotive software, Luxoft’s Cairo operations also focus on cybersecurity testing and compliance, with the company’s facility certified by TÜV SÜD for Cybersecurity Management Systems (CSMS). This further establishes Egypt as a hub for innovation in high-demand fields like data protection and compliance.
A Strong Catalyst for Growth and Investment
The Android Automotive Training Program marks just one example of Egypt’s growing role as a global tech leader. With rising investments from global companies in sectors such as embedded systems, automotive software, and cybersecurity, Egypt is solidifying its status as a competitive hub for technology and innovation. The country’s skilled workforce, combined with strategic government initiatives, is positioning Egypt at the forefront of the global talent race in the high-tech sector.
As automotive software and future mobility solutions continue to evolve, Egypt’s growing pool of talented engineers and software developers is playing a pivotal role in driving the global automotive industry forward, ensuring the country’s place as a leader in the next generation of technology.
