Egypt launches Wi-Fi calling 1 - Egyptian Gazette

Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Amr Talaat announced the official launch of Wi-Fi Calling.

This service allows citizens to make and receive mobile calls over fixed internet networks with high efficiency, particularly in areas with weak mobile network coverage or technically challenging locations.

The service, developed over a year in collaboration with the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and Egypt’s four major telecom operators—Vodafone Egypt, Telecom Egypt, Orange Egypt, and Etisalat Egypt—provides high-quality voice calls in challenging locations, such as high-rise buildings and indoor spaces.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance telecom services nationwide, including the construction of over 3,000 mobile towers in 2024 and the extension of full mobile coverage to highways and villages under the “Hayah Karima” initiative by mid-2025.

Wi-Fi Calling is available at no additional cost, operating under users’ current mobile plans, and can be activated directly through phone settings.
