Egypt, represented by Egypt Post authority, was elected as chair for the board of directors of the Postal Union for Mediterranean (PUMED), during the “2022-2026” round. The elections were held on the sidelines of the 15th session of the PUMED General Assembly, which was hosted by Egypt on December 5, 6 in Luxor City.
For his part, Dr Sherif Farouk, Board Chairman of Egypt Post, said that: “The selection of Egypt is a new success that is added to the series of successes and achievements realized by Egypt Post during the last period. It {the success} highlights Egypt’s pioneering role at the regional and international arena in providing various postal services”.
He pointed out that the active participation of Egypt Post in all PUMED meetings and international forums had a great impact on spreading the experience of the authority’s success in developing the infrastructure, mechanizing all services provided, and developing new services that meet the needs of customers, a matter that makes Egypt Post an example to be followed.
For her part, Nermin Hassan, Head of the International Cooperation Sector, and the PUMED Board winner, said: “The winning confirms the confidence of the countries of the region in Egypt Post and the position it has achieved at the regional and international levels.
Egypt hosted in Luxor city over two days the PUMED 47th Board of Directors and the 15th General Assembly meetings, with the participation of 16 member states; namely, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Monaco, Palestine, Slovenia, Spain, Jordan, Libya, Syria and Turkey.
Postal dignitaries, headed by Mr Masahiko Mitoki, Director General of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), attended the meetings.
