Broadband providers obliged to send free data usage alerts 1 - Egyptian Gazette

By Hamed Mahmoud

A decision by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has obligated fixed broadband Internet providers operating in Egypt to send at least three free-of-charge SMS alerts to Internet subscribers at their registered phone numbers, notifying them of their data usage when they consume 50%, 75% and 100% of their monthly Internet package.

In this regard, NTRA calls on telecommunication services users to update their registered phone numbers with Internet providers to be able to receive data usage alerts on regular basis.

This decision is one in a series of measures adopted by NTRA to protect users’ rights and keep them notified of the details of the services they receive.

NTRA was established by virtue of the Telecom Regulation Law No. 10/ 2003, as the national authority responsible for regulating and administering the Egyptian telecommunication sector. NTRA aims to enhance and deploy services in compliance with the most advanced technologies, and to meet customer needs at affordable prices, with maintaining transparency, free competition, universal service and protection of customer rights.
