Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat held a meeting on Tuesday with Chairman and CEO of ZTELi Zixue, along with several senior executives from the globally leading Chinese telecommunications and information technology company. The meeting was held on the sidelines of Talaat’s participation in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.
Talks during the meeting focused on the company’s future plans to boost joint co-operation in digital infrastructure and capacity building.
During the meeting, the latest developments regarding ZTE’s establishment of two training labs at the National Telecommunication Institute were reviewed.
The chairman of the company highlighted ongoing projects aimed at strengthening telecommunications infrastructure and plans to expand operations in Egypt by leveraging skilled Egyptian youth trained in ZTE technologies. Additionally, Zixue outlined his company’s vision for establishing a research and development centre to support ZTE projects across Africa.
Minister Talaat also met Mr Robert Ebert, CEO of Sigma Technology, a global company specialising in technology consulting. The discussions covered the company’s future expansion plans in Egypt and the country’s competitive advantages in the outsourcing industry, as well as the incentives provided to companies under Egypt’s Digital Strategy for the development of the outsourcing sector.
In a related context, Talaat held talks with Helmut Reisinger, CEO of Palo Alto Networks for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, along with several senior executives from the global cybersecurity company. The two sides explored potential co-operation in the field of cybersecurity and digital capacity building.
During the discussions, Reisinger commended the capabilities of Egyptian professionals in communications and IT sector, expressing his aspiration to expand the company’s ventures in Egypt by leveraging local talent to deliver digital services to customers across North Africa.
The three-day MWC 2025 is the largest annual global gathering of stakeholders in the communications and information technology industry.
The conference and exhibition brings together over 100,000 attendees, 2,700 exhibitors, decision-makers, experts, international organisations, leading technology companies, and innovators from around the world. This year, the MWC explores a range of key topics, including the governance of responsible artificial intelligence (AI), energy efficiency in networks, and advancements in quantum computing and 5G technologies.
