The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) on Monday hosted the eleventh meeting of the Arab Artificial Intelligence Task Force at its Smart Village branch.
This important gathering follows the vision of Professor Dr Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of AASTMT, to boost scientific teamwork between the Academy, the League of Arab States, and various Arab ministries and their technical groups.
The meeting was led by Egypt, with Dr Hoda Baraka, Advisor to the Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology and head of the AI Task Force, chairing the session.
Many high-level officials from Arab communication and AI ministries attended, along with a delegation from the League of Arab States led by Minister Plenipotentiary Dr Khaled Wali, Director of Communications and Information Technology Development.
Experts from Arab organizations focused on AI, like the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization and the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, were also present.
Additionally, representatives from international groups such as the International Telecommunication Union and UNESCO contributed to the discussions.
A team from AASTMT, including Dr Ali Fahmy, Dean of the College of Artificial Intelligence, and Dr Moustafa Rashid, Assistant President for Arab Affairs, also took part.
Dr Moustafa Rashid opened the meeting on behalf of President Abdel Ghaffar, highlighting AASTMT’s ongoing commitment to supporting Arab efforts in AI.
He stressed that AI is now essential for development and building the future, not just a luxury. He also praised the Task Force’s achievements and reaffirmed the Academy’s dedication to supporting joint Arab efforts in AI innovation, research, training, and skill development.
The eleventh meeting of the Arab Artificial Intelligence Task Force covered several vital subjects.
They presented the final version of the Arab Code of Ethics for Artificial Intelligence, which aims to guide ethical AI use across the region.
Discussions also focused on the plan to put the Arab Strategy for Artificial Intelligence into action.
The team reviewed progress on creating an Arab digital platform for the AI team and shared success stories and achievements in AI from different Arab countries and organizations.
This meeting is part of the ongoing efforts by the Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information to align AI policies across the Arab world and strengthen the region’s role in the global digital economy. The League of Arab States is committed to a collaborative approach that fosters Arab unity and promotes lasting technological innovation.
