Cairo powerhouse Zamalek, Pyramids FC and Arab Contractors claimed victories in their matches in the 17th matchday of the 2021-2022 Egyptian Premier League season on Sunday.
At Arab Contractors Stadium, the Cairo giants stunned Eastern Company.
Striker Omar el-Said opened the scoring for the White Knights in the 39th minute as an own goal from Zamalek’s defender Mahmoud el-Wensh levelled for Eastern Company in the 65th minute.
Right-winger Ahmed Sayed ‘Zizo’ scored the winner in the stoppage time 90+1.
The victory temporarily cemented Zamalek on top of the Egyptian Premier League table with 41 points (eight points clear), ahead of archrivals Al-Ahly still has three matches in hand.
Eastern Company remained at 18th place with 10 points from 16 matches.
At El-Gouna Stadium, Pyramids FC stunned El-Gouna FC 2-1.
Left-winger Ramadan Sobhi scored the opening for Pyramids in the 19th minute as striker Khaled Kamar grabbed the equaliser for El-Gouna in the 27th minute.
Centre-back Osama Galal claimed the winner in the 71st minute.
The win kept Pyramids FC in 3rd place with 32 points from 15 matches as El-Gouna stayed in 14th place with 17 points from 16 matches.
Elsewhere, Arab Contractors defeated Al-Masry of Port Said 2-0 at Alexandria’s Borg el-Arab Stadium.
Contractors’ goals came from attacking midfielder Abdallah Yassine in the 18th minute as centre-back Farouck Kabore added the second from the penalty spot in the 71st minute.
The result pushed Arab Contractors to 15th place with 16 points from 17 matches as Al-Masry of Port Said slipped to 11th place with 19 points from 15 matches.
At the same week, defending champions Al-Ahly was held to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Ceramica Cleopatra.
An injury-time penalty from playmaker Mohamed Magdi “Afsha” in the 87th minute saw Al-Ahly salvage a point to Ceramica after striker Bassem Morsi had put the home side in front in the 87th minute.
The draw kept the Red Devils second in the table with 33 points from 14 matches as Ceramica stayed in 13th place with 18 points from 17 matches.
At Cairo’s Military Sports Authority Stadium, Talae el-Geish stunned Ismaili 1-0.
Right-winger Ahmed Samir scored the match sole goal in the 59th minute.
The result pushed Talae el-Geish to 8th place with 22 points from 17 matches as Ismaili stayed in 16th place with 11 points from 16 matches.
