Sports and Youth Minister Ashraf Sobhy has praised President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s great support for the sports system.
The minister made his remarks on Saturday on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the 11th edition of the Professional Squash Association’s (PSA) El Gouna International 2023, hosted by the Red Sea governorate during the period from May 26 to June 2.
President Sisi’s backing has contributed to helping Egypt occupy a special prestigious position worldwide with having good sporting infrastructure to host different international sports events and activities, Sobhy reiterated.
The minister also congratulated Egypt’s stars Ali Farag and Nouran Gohar on finishing the tournament in the first positions.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is keen to offer full support for squash athletes to maintain top positions in the PSA rankings under Sisi’s directives, Sobhy added.
The closing ceremony was attended by President of the Egyptian Squash Association Asem Khalifa and a host of world’s squash stars and media professionals, among others.
Egypt’s Farag won on Friday the Men’s El Gouna International 2023 title after defeating his compatriot Mostafa Assal 12-10, 10-12, 11-6, 11-2.
Egypt’s Gohar claimed the title of the Women’s El Gouna International on Friday after beating Belgium’s Nele Gilis 11-5, 11-7, 11-9.
