The Ministry of Youth and Sports has welcomed the latest naming of the Pyramids Half Marathon as one of the world’s most amazing running courses by the National Geographic magazine.
This prestigious acknowledgment, it said, underscores the unique allure of the event, seamlessly blending athletic challenge with the unparalleled backdrop of ancient Egyptian civilisation and history.
Held annually under the patronage and rigorous oversight of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and expertly organised by the Tri Factory team, the Pyramids Marathon has rapidly ascended to become a premier sporting event in the region.

It has been held annually since around 2019. The upcoming event will be its seventh edition. It will be held in December 2025.
Initially, there was a full marathon distance, but in recent years, the focus has been on the half marathon, 10K, and 5K races. This half marathon will likely encourage broader participation.
The event attracts thousands of participants from across the globe, offering them an extraordinary opportunity to run in the shadow of the iconic Giza Pyramids, a testament to humanity’s enduring legacy.
Running the Pyramids Half Marathon is often described as a once-in-a-lifetime experience, thanks so the historical and visually stunning location.
This remarkable achievement aligns with the Egyptian state’s strategic focus on promoting sports tourism as a key driver of economic growth and international visibility.
Under the visionary leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Egypt has witnessed a transformative period in the organisation of major international sporting events, elevating the Pyramids Marathon to a position of global prominence.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhi, expressed profound pride in this global recognition.
“This is a testament to the exceptional nature of the Pyramids Marathon, where the thrill of athletic competition meets the grandeur of history,” he said.
“We are honoured by National Geographic’s recognition, which validates our efforts to position Egypt as a leading destination for sports tourism,” he added.
Looking towards the future, Minister Sobhi announced ambitious plans for the eighth edition of the marathon in 2026.
In collaboration with the Tri Factory team and international governing bodies, he said, we are actively working to expand the Pyramids Marathon route to a full 42 kilometres, adhering to international standards.
“This expansion will further enhance the marathon’s global stature and attract an even wider international audience,” he affirmed.
Minister Sobhi further emphasized that this achievement is a direct result of sustained dedication to developing sports infrastructure and hosting world-class events that showcase Egypt’s rich cultural heritage and modern capabilities.

He acknowledged the pivotal role of the six-year partnership and six consecutive editions with the Tri Factory team in elevating the marathon to its current world-class standards, ensuring it aligns with the best international sporting events.
National Geographic, in its official report, highlighted that the Pyramids Marathon offers more than just a distinctive running route.
It provides participants with an unparalleled opportunity to immerse themselves in the awe-inspiring presence of one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
This unique setting imbues the event with a legendary quality, transcending the purely athletic to become an unforgettable cultural and spiritual experience.
The Pyramids Marathon caters to a diverse range of participants through its inclusion of 5K, 10K, and half-marathon races, ensuring accessibility for individuals of all ages and fitness levels.
This latest accolade firmly establishes the Pyramids Marathon as a flagship event in the global sporting calendar and a source of immense national pride, seamlessly uniting the passion for sports with the timeless splendour of ancient Egyptian history.
