Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi alongside President of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Hany Abo Rida and the Egyptian Ambassador to Morocco, Ahmed Nehad, met with the Egyptian national team to celebrate their 3-1 victory over Benin at Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The win officially secured the Pharaohs’ place in the quarter-finals.

During the meeting, Sobhi conveyed a message of support from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, emphasizing the state’s unwavering backing for the national team.
The Minister praised the technical staff, led by Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan, and the players for their performance, noting that football remains a primary source of pride and joy for the Egyptian people.

Abo Rida also commended the squad, highlighting that the current generation possesses the talent and character to achieve great success for Egypt.
He took a moment to address the unfortunate injury of Mohamed Hamdy, who suffered a torn ACL during the match.
Abo Rida wished him a speedy recovery and assured that the EFA would provide full support throughout his rehabilitation.

Head coach Hossam Hassan echoed these sentiments, expressing his pride in the players’ efforts while sharing his sadness over Hamdy’s injury, whom he described as an exemplary player both on and off the field.
