CAIRO – Egypt staged the largest-ever World Shooting Championship, “Pistol and Rifle – Cairo 2025,” at the state-of-the-art Egypt International Olympic City, cementing its status as a premier global sporting hub.
The tournament drew more than 1,100 shooters from 72 nations, ranking it among the most competitive and technically advanced editions in the championship’s history.

Amidst this high-caliber field, the host nation rose to the occasion, delivering a standout performance, claiming an impressive eight medals across multiple disciplines. The strong showing not only underscored the country’s growing prominence in international shooting but also showcased its capability to stage world-class sporting events at the highest level.
Solo showing
The Egyptian shooters delivered with precision and poise, showcasing outstanding skill and determination to make their presence felt across all competition categories.
In the men’s Target Sprint, Ahmed Dirgham delivered an outstanding performance to secure the silver medal, while his teammate Ahmed Atiya added further glory with a hard-earned bronze, highlighting Egypt’s steadily growing presence and competitiveness in the international shooting arena.

On the junior stage, rising talent Dalia Magdy Mohamed shone brightly, claiming bronze in the women’s Target Sprint and signaling a promising future for Egypt’s next generation of shooters.
Together, these performances reflect not only individual excellence but also the depth of talent and resilience within Egypt’s shooting programme, underscoring the nation’s ambitions to continue rising among the sport’s elite.
Team triumphs
In the mixed doubles Target Sprint, the dynamic pairing of Wafaa Hamed and Ahmed Atiya delivered a remarkable performance, earning a hard-fought bronze after a tense battle with Germany’s elite competitors, narrowly missing out on the top podium spot.
The junior mixed teams also impressed, with Dalia Sabah and Omar Salem demonstrating exceptional coordination and skill to claim the silver medal.

The senior mixed teams upheld Egypt’s high standards, securing both silver and bronze medals, and the youth mixed teams contributed to the nation’s growing medal tally with another bronze finish.
Collectively, these achievements underscored the depth of talent, strategic teamwork, and competitive spirit running through Egypt’s shooting squads, signaling a bright future on the international stage.
Officials praise
Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhy, lauded the remarkable achievements of athletes, describing them as a testament to the nation’s unwavering commitment to nurturing individual sports and supporting its champions.
“I extend my sincere congratulations to the players and the Egyptian Shooting Federation for this distinguished accomplishment,” he said.

Hazem Hosni, President of the Egyptian and African Shooting Federations, highlighted the championship’s organisational excellence and world-class facilities.
Speaking to Nile News TV, Hosni noted that visiting delegations consistently praised the ranges and competition standards as among the finest in the world, underscoring Egypt’s growing reputation for hosting elite international sporting events.

Beyond the competition, the tournament provided an opportunity to showcase Egyptian culture, with participating delegations visiting iconic landmarks, including the Grand Egyptian Museum.
Hosni stressed that the championship not only elevated Egypt’s sporting stature but also enhanced its cultural profile, offering participants a unique experience that celebrated both athletic achievement and the nation’s rich heritage on a global stage.

The championship concluded on a high note, with Minister Sobhy honouring the medal-winning athletes in the presence of Hazem Hosni and senior officials from the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).
