LONDON — Liverpool’s Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has been named the PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Month for September.
The forward scored two goals and contributed a brace of assists to help Liverpool win three of their four fixtures in the division during the month, according to Liverpool’s official website.
Salah saw off competition from Erling Haaland (Manchester City), James Maddison and Son Heung-min (both Tottenham Hotspur), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) and Kieran Trippier (Newcastle United) to claim the prize.
The strikes marked Salah’s sixth and seventh of the season in just nine games, while he also became the first Premier League player to reach over 30 goal contributions (19 goals, 12 assists) in the calendar year of 2023.
His importance to Liverpool is a stark reminder that it will be incredibly difficult to replace him when he leaves the club.
Salah’s accolade as the PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Month underscores his enduring influence on the Premier League.
He continues to be a force to be reckoned with, a player who transcends the boundaries of club allegiances and is celebrated by football enthusiasts worldwide as the face of the English top tier.
It’s unclear when Salah will depart Anfield but with his contract set to expire in 2025, the inevitable heartbreaking goodbye is inching closer and it’s leaving many fans anxious for the future.
The 31-year-old Egyptian international is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world, and he has been an asset for Liverpool since joining the club.
Finding a suitable replacement is arguably the most difficult recruitment challenge the club has faced since Steven Gerrard left the Premier League for the MLS in 2015.
Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane have been linked with potentially replacing the 31-year-old with players exciting players.
That said, a player like Salah, who scored and assisted 46 games last season, is not someone that can be very easily replaced.
As Liverpool emerged victorious in the heated Merseyside showdown, the spotlight swivels not just towards their talismanic forward, Salah, but also the collective spirit and tactical discipline the team exhibited.
The Reds, under the strategic helm of Jurgen Klopp, secured a vital 2-0 triumph against a 10-man Everton side, underscoring their resilience and championship mentality.
Salah has been linked with a move away from Liverpool in recent months, but Alisson Becker has urged him to stay put.
Reflecting on the high-octane clash, Liverpool’s Alisson didn’t mince words about the significance of these three points: “Every three points we can get is massive for us. The game was even more special for us as it was a derby.
“We know the importance for the supporters, for the city, for everybody and for us as well. We are going to keep fighting and let’s see what we can reach.”
Salah’s brace didn’t just add to his impressive tally but also echoed the sentiments of a team unwilling to settle for anything less than victory. “This guy is amazing,” Alisson gushed in his post-match reflections.
“I’m so glad to have him in our team. I hope he can break all the records that he has in front of him as long as he keeps the red shirt on him!”
