LONDON — The official account of the English Premier League celebrated Egypt’s first victory in FIFA World Cup history after the Pharaohs defeated New Zealand.
Egypt secured a 3-1 win over New Zealand in Group G action, moving to the top of the standings with four points.
The Egyptian goals were scored by Moustafa Zico, former Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and former Aston Villa winger and current Al-Ahly player Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet.”

In tribute to the two former Premier League stars, the Premier League account posted a series of messages praising Egypt’s historic victory.
The account shared a photo of Salah and Trezeguet celebrating their goals with the caption: “Glories, Egypt, Glories.” It also posted another image of Trezeguet titled: “The Decisive Trezeguet.”
In addition, the account shared an old video of Salah at Anfield wearing the Egyptian flag around his neck during celebrations at Liverpool’s stadium, captioning it: “For the History Books, Salah.” Another video featuring Salah and Manchester City star Omar Marmoush was posted under the title: “Egypt’s Sons.”
Salah was named Man of the Match after scoring Egypt’s second goal and assisting Trezeguet for the third.
He also netted his 68th international goal, moving closer to matching current Egypt coach Hossam Hassan’s record as the national team’s all-time leading scorer.
The Liverpool legend also made his fourth World Cup appearance, becoming the most-capped Egyptian player in World Cup history. In addition, he surpassed Abdel Moneim Fawzi’s record to become Egypt’s top scorer at the World Cup with three goals.
