TUNIS – Egyptian ambassador in Tunis Ehab Fahmi congratulated weightlifting team for clinching 30 medals; 21 gold, four silver and five bronze, in the Senior African Weightlifting Championships, currently held in Tunis from May 11 to 19.
President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Mohammed Jalood honored Ambassador Fahmi and handed him over the federation’s shield in appreciation of his participation in the tournament’s activities.
The African Weightlifting Championships is an event organized by the Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA). Athletes compete in a total of 20 weight categories (10 for men and 10 for women) since 2019.
Egyptian weightlifter Karim Kahla won three gold medals during his participation in the African Weightlifting Championship in Tunisia.
Weightlifter Sara Samir has won three gold medals at the African Championships.
Also, weightlifter Islam Abul Wafa secured a bronze medal in the same competition.
A total of 189 players representing 22 countries are taking part in the competition, that kicked off on May 1.
Eleven Egyptian female and male weightlifters are taking part in the event.
