CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi inaugurated Thursday the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG)’s Artistic Gymnastics World Cup at the Indoor Halls Complex of Cairo International Stadium.
The tournament, held on March 17-20, acts as qualifier to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, Sobhi praised officials of the Egypt Gymnastics Federation that is chaired by Dr. Ehab Amin, highlighting their great efforts over the past period to gear up for Egypt’s hosting of the tournament.
The Egyptian State, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, has become ready to host all major sporting events with the infrastructure of sports facilities reaching an optimal level, in accordance with relevant international standards and requirements, the minister added.
President of the Egypt Gymnastics Federation and the African Gymnastics Union Ehab Amin expressed thanks and appreciation to Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi and the Egyptian State for their great support over the past period.
Meanwhile, FIG President Morinari Watanabe commended the efforts exerted by the head of the Egypt Gymnastics Federation, the Egyptian State and the sports minister to support gymnastics over the past stage.
Held amid strict anti-coronavirus precautionary measures, the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup sees the participation of 281 athletes representing 34 countries.
