Egypt’s Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi on Saturday congratulated Egyptian athlete Ahmed Osama El Gendy on snatching the silver medal of the modern pentathlon competition in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
It was Egypt’s first-ever Olympic medal in the five-event sport that comprises fencing, freestyle swimming, equestrian, and the final combined laser-run event of pistol shooting and cross country running.
Sobhi praised Gendy’s outstanding performance in the prestigious tournament, and his insistence on achieving an Olympic medal to be added to the Egyptian history in the game, in light of the achievements witnessed by the Egyptian state in all international forums thanks to the great support of the political leadership for the national athletes.
Egypt’s medal haul at the 2020 edition has reached six, including gold and bronze in karate, silver in modern pentathlon, two bronze in taekwondo, and a bronze in wrestling.
