CAIRO – Egyptian Sports and Youths Minister Ashraf Sobhi attended the training of the national football team ahead of their clash with Guinea and Ethiopia on June 5 and 9 in the first and second rounds of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Pharaohs have been drawn in Group D alongside Guinea, Ethiopia and Malawi during the draw ceremony conducted on 19 April.
Sobhi expressed confidence that the national team footballers will be able to secure Egypt’s qualification for the AFCON, stressing that the political leadership is supporting all national teams.
The seven-time African Champions will host Guinea on Thursday 2 June at 9pm Cairo time and are set to travel to Addis Ababa to play Ethiopia on 9 June at 6pm Cairo time in their second group qualifier.
New coach Ehab Galal will make his debut against Guinea after replacing veteran Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz who left after the team failed to qualify for the World Cup 2022.
The Pharaohs are looking for a record-extending 26 participation in the final phase.
