EL ALAMEIN, Egypt – Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi asserted the Egypt’s readiness to host the 2021 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships set to be held during the period from September 1 to 5.
Efforts were coordinated with all bodies and ministries concerned to provide all requirements to ensure that the event would be held in a way that reflects Egypt’s distinguished status, the minister said during a Cabinet meeting held Thursday under Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli to discuss preparations as well as technical and medical arrangements for hosting the tournament.
In 2016, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) selected Egypt to host the 2021 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships that had been set to be held in April 2020 via voting but whose date was later postponed due to the coronavirus.
The cycling track was implemented at Cairo International Stadium during the second presidential term of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, he said, adding that it is the newest cycle racing track in Africa and the Middle East boasting state-of-the-art systems and techniques that cope up with the international standards in this field.
Sobhi noted, according to MENA, that 46 countries will take part in the championship with 500 competitors and 250 volunteers.
In this regard, Sobhi reviewed the prevention plan set to be adopted against the coronavirus at airports and hotels where participants will stay during the competitions.
