DOHA – Egyptian giants Al-Ahly finished preparations in readiness for their clash against Moroccan counterparts Raja Casablanca on Wednesday at 7:00pm Cairo Local Time
at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Doha, Qatar, to determine the winner of the 30th edition of the CAF Super Cup.
Defender Ayman Ashraf rejoined the team’s full training as he fully recovered from his knee injury and is now ready to participate in the game.
Right-back player Akram Tawfik had a physiotherapy session after he felt pain in his quadriceps muscle. Akram will undergo several medical tests to evaluate his condition before rejoining the team’s squad for the game.
Al-Ahly holds the record for the greatest number of CAF Super Cup titles, having won seven times out of the nine finals they have played, the last of which was the latest edition last May, beating RS Berkane 2-0.
Mohamed Sherif and Salah Mohsen’s second-half goals handed Egyptian giants their seventh CAF Super Cup title after beating RS Berkane at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.
Al-Ahly qualified for the CAF Super Cup 2021 after winning the CAF Champions League title for a record tenth time last July, beating South Africa’s Kazier Chiefs 3-0 in the final in Casablanca, Morocco.
Meanwhile, Hany Abo Rida, FIFA Council member, was keen to attend part of the team’s training session in Doha.
Then, he had a short meeting with Mahmoud el-Khatib, Al-Ahly’s president, on the sidelines of the training.
“We have a full fit squad for the game. We expect the clash to be a difficult one against a tough opponent, who is the title holders of the CAF Confederations Cup,” Sayed Abdel Hafeez, Al-Ahly’s director of football said.
“The players are dedicated and they are fully concentrated on winning the CAF Super Cup. Captain El Khatib was also keen to talk to them and stress the importance of winning the trophy.”
“Finally, I would like to thank the fans for their great reception at the airport. I’m sure that the players will do their best to win the title and make them happy,” he added according to the club official website.
Raja, meanwhile, appears in the CAF Super Cup for the fourth time, winning it twice before, the latest in 2019 defeating Tunisia’s Esperance 2-1 in Doha too.
Raja lifted the CAF Confederation Cup for the second time, beating Algeria’s JS Kabylie 2-1 in the final last July in Cotonou, Benin.
