Egyptian Premier League: Zamalek, Ismail claim wins

Cairo powerhouse Zamalek and Ismail claimed victories in their matches in the 28th matchday of the 2021-22 Egyptian Premier League season.

Zamalek took big step towards defending the league title after thrashing Pyramids FC 3-0 at Cairo International Stadium.

Winger Ahmed Sayed ‘Zizo’ opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 2nd minute.

Then Tunisian striker Seifeddine Jaziri added the second in the 23rd minute as winger Mahmoud Abdel Razik ‘Shikabala’ scored the third in the injury time 94th minute.

The victory stretched Zamalek’s lead at the top of the league table with 66 points from 28 matches as Pyramids FC remained at 2nd place with 59 points from 28 matches.

At Ismailia Stadium, Ismaili defeated Misr el-Maqassa 1-0 thanks to goal from playmaker Ahmed Madbouli in the 28th minute.

Ismaili is now in 12th place in the table with 32 points from 27 matches as Misr el-Maqassa dropped into 18th place with 15 points from 28 matches.

At Petrosport Stadium in Cairo, NBE Club and El-Gouna had to settle for a point each after a pulsating 1-1 draw.

Attacking midfielder Islam Abdelnaim scored for El-Gouna in the 41st minute as midfielder Mohamed Hilal equalised in the 86th minute.

The draw left NBE Club to 7th place with 38 points from 28 matches as El-Gouna stayed in 15th place with 27 points from 28 matches.

At Borg el-Arab Stadium in Alexandria, Enppi and Al-Masry of Port Said played out a 1-1 draw.

Nigerian midfielder John Ebuka’s brace in the 59th minute helped Enppi snatch a point against Al-Masry of Port Said as Nigeria’s centre-forward Austin Amutu opened the scoring in the 5th minute.

The draw kept Al-Masry of Port Said into 11th place with 32 points from 28 matches as Enppi remained at 13th place with 31 points from 28 matches.

At Arab Contractors Stadium, Eastern Company defeated Ceramica Cleopatra 1-0.

Centre-back player Mohamed Saleh scored the match sole goal from the penalty spot in the 11th minute.

The victory pushed Eastern Company to 15th place with 27 points from 28 matches as Ceramica Cleopatra dropped into 9th place with 33 points from 28 matches.

Elsewhere, Ghazl el-Mahalla stunned Smouha 1-0 at Ghazl el-Mahalla Stadium.

Centre-forward Abdo Yehia scored the match sole goal in the 49th minute.

Ghazl el-Mahalla is now in 14th place in the table with 30 points from 26 matches. Smouha remained in 6th place with 40 points from 28 matches.

At Cairo’s Military Sports Authority Stadium, Talae el-Geish beat Al-Ittihad of Alexandria 2-1.

Right-winger Ali el-Zahdi opened the scoring for Talae el-Geish in the 4th minute as playmaker Ahmed Samir added the second in the 45+1 minute.

Al-Ittihad’s sole goal came from Ghanaian striker Benjamin Boateng in the 75th minute.

The result left Talae el-Geish to 4th place with 44 points from 28 matches as Al-Ittihad of Alexandria dropped into 10th place with 33 points from 28 matches.
