Cairo powerhouse Pyramids FC, Zamalek and Talae el-Geish claimed victories in their matches in the 21st matchday of the 2021-22 Egyptian Premier League season.
At Alexandria’s Borg el-Arab Stadium, Pyramids FC defeated Al-Masry of Port Said 3-1.
South Africa international Fakhri Lakay scored for Pyramids from the penalty spot in the 63th minute. Al-Masry Tunisian defender Haitham Layouni added the second goal for Pyramids by an own goal in the 74th minute.
Then Pyramids’ striker Ibrahim Adel added the third in the 90th minute.
Al-Masry’s sole goal came from came defender Haitham Layouni in the 77th minute.
The victory pushed Pyramids FC to second place in the standing with 43 points from 21 matches as Al-Masry remained at 14th place with 20 points from 21 matches.
At Cairo International Stadium, Zamalek snatched a 2-1 win over Ismaili.
Moroccan left-winger Achraf Bencharki opened the scoring for Zamalek in the 42nd minute.
Defender Baher el-Mohammadi levelled the score for Isamili from the penalty spot in the 61st minute.
Striker Omar el-Said scored the White Knights’ winner in the 64th minute.
The win temporarily cemented Zamalek on top of the Egyptian Premier League table with 44 points, seven clear of perennial rivals Al-Ahly, who still have four matches in hand.
Ismaili lied third from bottom in the 16th place with 18 points from 20 matches.
At Ghazl el-Mahalla Stadium, Talae el-Geish defeated hosts Ghazl el-Mahalla 1-0 thanks to goal from striker Ragab Omran in the 38th minute.
The victory took Talae el-Geish to 6th place with 32 points from 21 matches as Ghazl el-Mahalla dropped to 11th place with 25 points from 21 matches.
Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo, Future FC and Eastern Company played out a 1-1 draw.
Future’s striker Ahmed Refaat scored from a penalty spot in 13th minute as Palestinian defender Mohamed Salah grabbed the equaliser for Eastern Company in the 43rd minute.
The draw kept Future FC in 4th place with 36 points from 21 matches as Eastern Company remained at 18th place with 13 points from 20 matches.
At the same week, hosts El-Gouna FC stunned Al-Ittihad of Alexandria 1-0.
Striker Khaled Kamar scored the match sole goal in the 68st minute at El-Gouna Stadium.
The win pushed El-Gouna to 13th place with 21 points from 20 matches as Al-Ittihad stayed in 12th place with 22 points from 21 matches.
Elsewhere, Misr el-Maqassa was held to a goalless draw against Pharco FC at Cairo’s Military Academy Stadium.
The draw kept Pharco FC in 8th place in the table with 29 points from 21 matches as Misr el-Maqassa stayed in 17th place with 14 points from 21 matches.
Meanwhile, At Alexandria Stadium, Enppi was held to a 1-1 draw against Smouha.
An injury-time penalty from left-winger Moustafa Shalabi in the 90+3 minute saw Enppi salvaged a point to Smouha after left-winger Sedik Kalaba had put the home side in the front in the 32nd minute.
The draw left Smouha to 5th place with 35 points from 21 matches as the Petroleum side stayed in 9th place with 26 points from 21 matches.
At Petrosport Stadium, NBE Club was held to a goalless draw against Ceramica Cleopatra.
The result kept NBE Club at 7th place with 30 points from 21 matches as Ceramica Cleopatra remained 10th with 25 points from 21 matches.
