CAIRO — The fifth week of the 2024-2025 Egyptian Premier League season saw Petrojet, El-Gouna, NBE Club, and ZED FC secure victories, while Pyramids FC, Al-Masry, and Zamalek dropped valuable points.
The match between defending champions Al-Ahly and Smouha was postponed to accommodate Al-Ahly’s participation in the CAF Champions League fixture against Algeria’s CR Belouizdad.
At Ismailia Stadium, Ismaili and Pyramids FC settled for a 1-1 draw.
The draw raised Pyramids FC’s points tally to 8, securing fourth place in the league standings, while Ismaili remained in 13th position with 5 points.
In the fourth minute, Ismaili’s Burkinabe midfielder Eric Traore broke free inside the penalty area and attempted to bypass Pyramids goalkeeper Ahmed el-Shenawy, but his shot narrowly missed the mark.
Pyramids shifted their approach, easing off the pressure and focusing on disrupting Ismaili’s defense while seeking opportunities through crosses.
Ismaili opened the scoring in the 29th minute when striker Marwan Hamdi found the net with a powerful strike from inside the penalty area, capitalizing on a precise cross from Eric Traore on the right flank.
In the 35th minute, Pyramids midfielder Moustafa Fathy delivered a corner from the left, which defender Ahmed Sami met with a header. However, Ismaili goalkeeper Kamal el-Sayed made a comfortable save.
Pyramids leveled the score in the 45th minute when defender Osama Galal capitalized on a cross from Moroccan right-back Mohamed Chibi. A defensive lapse by Ismaili provided Galal with the opportunity to find the net.
In the 54th minute, Pyramids made a substitution, with defender Ali Gabr replacing the injured Ahmed Sami.
At Ghazl El-Mahalla Stadium, Al-Ittihad Alexandria and Ghazl El-Mahalla played out a goalless draw in a tightly contested match.
The result pushed Al-Ittihad to 8 points, securing seventh place in the league standings, while Ghazl el-Mahalla remained in 15th with 5 points.
Ghazl El-Mahalla dominated the match, creating the most notable chances.
ZED FC narrowly defeated Pharos FC 2-1 in a thrilling encounter at Max Stadium in Alexandria.
ZED’s goals came from left-winger Abdelrahman el-Banouby in the 7th minute and striker Shadi Hussein in the 71st minute. Pharos’ lone goal was scored by forward Ahmed Sherif in the 35th minute.
The win propelled ZED’s points total to 8, placing them in fifth position in the league standings. In contrast, Pharos remained on 7 points, dropping to eighth place.
NBE Club earned their first victory of the season with a narrow 1-0 win over Modern Sport at Cairo International Stadium.
The victory brought NBE Club’s points tally to 5, moving them up to 14th place in the league standings. Meanwhile, Modern Sport remained on 3 points, occupying second-to-last place.
The decisive moment occurred in the 44th minute of the first half, when referee Mohamed Ma’roof, after a VAR review, awarded a penalty to NBE Club.
Striker Osama Faisal stepped up and confidently converted the penalty, placing the ball to the left of Modern Sport goalkeeper Mahmoud Genesh, giving NBE Club a well-deserved lead.
Elsewhere, Zamalek and Ceramica Cleopatra played out an exciting 1-1 draw, while Haras el-Hodoud and Al-Masry of Port Said ended in a goalless stalemate in a closely contested encounter.
Petrojet secured their first win of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Talae el-Geish, and El-Gouna earned a 1-0 victory over Enppi.
