Egyptian Premier League: Pyramids keep hold of top spot

The 25th week of the 2023-2024 Egyptian Premier League season saw Zamalek returned to winning rhythm as Pyramids FC strengthened their grip on top the domestic table. Modern Future, Ismaili and Ceramica Cleopatra dropped points.

Defending champions Al-Ahly clash against ZED FC has been postponed due to the Red Devils’ participation in the CAF Champions League.

The Egyptian Premier League will be paused after the 25th week due to the national team’s training camp, managed by twins Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan, in readiness for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Burkina Faso and Guinea Bissau scheduled from June 3 to 10.

The Pharaohs have been placed in Group A alongside Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Sierra Leone.

Currently, they lead Group A with six points from two games played. They secured win in their first two qualifying matches against Djibouti 6-0 in the first round and Sierra Leone 2-0 in the second round.

At Borg el-Arab Stadium, Zamalek regained their momentum in domestic league by securing a convincing 2-0 victory against Al-Ittihad of Alexandria.

The White Knights took the lead through Nasser Maher in the 27th minute from a smart pass from team-mate Omar Gaber and unleashed a quite stunning strike as they went into the break ahead.

In the 57th minute, Tunisian striker Saif Al-Jaziri boosted the lead through a magical pass from Senegalese winger Ibrahima Ndiaye to net the second.

The victory pushed Zamalek into 12th place with 28 points from 17 matches as Al-Ittihad stayed in 5th place with 36 points from 25 games.

Pyramids FC claimed a valuable triumph after stunning El-Gouna 1-0 at Cairo’s -Air Defence Stadium.

Striker Ibrahim Adel scored the game sole goal in the 28th minute.

The victory cemented Pyramids FC on top the domestic league table with 53 points from 22 matches and still has three games in hands as El-Gouna FC slipped to 11th place with 30 points from 24 matches.

At Petrosport Stadium in Cairo, Enppi showed their incredible class to overcome Ceramica Cleopatra and clinch glory with a dramatic 3-2 unbelievable comeback.

Enppi found themselves behind within the opening five minutes of the game after Nigerian centre-forward John Ebuka put the visitors igniting the away fans at Petrosport Stadium.

Ebuka surprisingly doubled the lead in the 46th minute after a well-worked cross from right-winger Ahmed el-Armouty.

Centre-back player Ahmed Kalosha reduced the deficit for Enppi in the 69th minute thanks to a diving header from a free kick into the box. Five minutes later, striker Ahmed Amin ‘Oufa’ levelled the game with a dazzling header.

In the dying moments of the match, Enppi’s centre-back player Ahmed Sabeha struck a decisive winner in the 61st minute to spark scenes of jubilation.

The win moved Enppi to 4th place in the table on 36 points from 24 games as Ceramica Cleopatra dropped into 7th place with 34 points from 23 matches.

At Borg el-Arab Stadium in Alexandria, Modern Future put in a resolute performance as they held Al-Masry of Port Said to a goalless draw.

While the first-half didn’t bring much goalmouth action, both teams engaged in an energetic performance, striving to showcase their unique styles but ultimately unable to find the back of the net.

Consequently, the second-half concluded with neither team beat the goalie, resulting in the goalless draw.

The draw kept Al-Masry of Port Said in 2nd place with 39 points after 24 games as Modern Future moved into 10th place with 32 points from 23 matches.

At Cairo International Stadium, Ismaili fought back to earn a 2-2 draw with NBE Club.

Striker Osama Faisal opened the scoring for NBE Club in the 47th minute of the game from a header as Ghanaian forward Yaw Annor added the second in the 76th minute.

After waves of attacks, Ismaili’s Burkina Faso midfielder Eric Traore succeeded in scoring his side’s first goal nine minutes before the end of the second-half.

Five minutes after the stoppage time, midfielder Omar el-Saaiy levelled the score for Ismaili by converting a powerful shot.

The draw left Ismaili to 13th place with 27 points from 25 matches as NBE Club stayed in 14th place with 23 points from 25 games.
