Egyptian Premier League: Al-Ahly grabs win as Zamalek drops points

Defending champions Al-Ahly extended their winning streak by defeating Al-Masry of Port Said, while arch-rivals Zamalek drew with Pyramids FC in rescheduled matches from the 18th round of the 2023-2024 Egyptian Premier League.

At Borg el-Arab Stadium in Alexandria, the Red Devils achieved their 16th consecutive league victory with a goal from Palestinian striker Wessam Abou Ali in the 62nd minute.

Al-Ahly and Pyramids FC are tied for first place, each with 69 points, but Al-Ahly leads on goal difference and has three games in hand. Meanwhile, Al-Masry of Port Said sits in 3rd place with 52 points from 31 matches.

At Cairo International Stadium, Zamalek and Pyramids FC shared the spoils in a thrilling 1-1 draw.

Winger Mostafa Shalaby opened the scoring for the White Knights in the 36^th minute.

South African forward Fagrie Lakay levelled the score for for Pyramids FC by converting a penalty kick in the 74^th minute.

An end-to-end finish ensued as both sides felt a late goal could be decisive.

The draw dropped Pyramids FC to 2th place in the standing with 69 points after 30 games as Zamalek moved into 5th place with 49 points from 28 matches.

The 31st week of the domestic League saw ZED FC, Ceramica Cleopatra and Modern Future FC returned to winning rhythm as Baladeyet el-Mahalla, Enppi and Smouha dropped points.

At Petrosport Stadium in Cairo, newly promoted side ZED FC showed their incredible class to overcome Enppi and clinch glory with a dramatic 4-1 comeback.

Enppi found themselves behind within the opening 16 minutes of the game after ZED FC left-winger player Moustafa Ziko put the visitors igniting the away fans at Petrosport Stadium.

Abdul Rahman al-Banoubi surprisingly doubled the lead for ZED in the 38^th minute after a well-worked cross from left-winger Ziko.

ZED’s Striker Shady Hussein added the third goal in the 43ed minute.

Centre-back player Ali Fawzi reduced the deficit for Enppi in the 57th minute from the penalty spot. Five minutes later, ZED’s Hussein scored the fourth with a dazzling header.

The victory pushed ZED FC into 7^th place with 44 points from 28 matches as Enppi stayed in 9^th place with 42 points from 30 games.

At Cairo International Stadium, Ceramica Cleopatra thrashed Baladeyet el-Mahalla 4-0.

Algerian midfielder Ahmed Kendouci opened the scoring form the penalty spot in the 3^rd minute.

Nigerian winger Sodiq Awujoola netted two stunning goals in the 17^th and 42^nd minutes.

Noor Aladdin added the the fourth in the 87^th minute.

The result moved Ceramica Cleopatra to 8th place in the table on 44 points from 30 games as Baladeyet el-Mahalla dropped into 16th place with 24 points from 31 matches.

At Cairo’s Al-Salam Stadium, Modern Future FC trounced Smouha 3-0.

Striker Ahmed Atef opened the scoring in the 3^rd minute.

Midfielder Mohamed Sadek added the second in the 29^th minute and then defender Khaled Reda scored the third in the 53^rd minute.

The result propelled Modern Future to 4th place in the standings with 50 points from 31 games, while Smouha slipped to 6th place with 45 points from 30 matches.

At Ismailia Stadium, Ismaili and El-Gouna had to settle for a point each after a pulsating 1-1 draw.

Attacking midfielder Mohamed Dessouky scored for Ismaili in the 41st minute from the penalty spot as midfielder Ashraf Magdy equalised in the 84th minute.

The draw left Ismaili to 14th place with 32 points from 31 matches as El-Gouna stayed in 13th place with 33 points from 31 matches.

At Alexandria Stadium, NBE Club put in a resolute performance as they held Al-Ittihad of Alexandria to a goalless draw.

The result kept Al-Ittihad of Alexandria in 10th place with 39 points after 31 games as NBE Club moved into 12th place with 34 points from 31 matches.
