Cairo powerhouse Al-Ahly was stumbled to a disappointing defeat as Pyramids FC, Zamalek and Ismaili claimed victories in their matches in the 25th matchday of the 2021-22 Egyptian Premier League season.
Pyramids FC claimed a valuable triumph after stunning Al-Ahly 2-0 at Cairo’s Air Defence Stadium.
Tunisian striker Fakhreddine Ben Youssef opened the scoring for Pyramids in the 29th minute as Burkina Faso midfielder Eric Traore added the second in the 65th minute.
The victory revived Pyramids’ hopes to win the Egyptian Premier League and ignited the title race with leader Zamalek.
They are now in second place in the standing with 53 points from 25 matches as Al-Ahly remained at third place with 48 points from 23 matches, who still have two matches in hand.
At Ghazl el-Mahalla Stadium, Defending champions Zamalek defeated El-Mahalla 2-0.
The White Knights’ goals came from Moroccan left-winger Achraf Bencharki in the 69th and 79th minutes.
The result cemented Zamalek on top of the Premier League table with 57 points from 25 matches, nine clear of rivals Al-Ahly.
El-Mahalla dropped to 14th place in the 18-team table on 26 points from 25 matches.
At Al-Salam Stadium, Ismaili stunned Future FC 2-1.
Future’s striker Mahmoud Marie opened the scoring in the 63rd minute as defender Baher el-Mohamadi equalised from the penalty spot in the 78th minute.
Ismaili’s playmaker Ahmed Madbouli grabbed the winner in the 90th minute.
The win pushed Ismaili into 13th place with 26 points from 24 matches as Future FC stayed in 4th place with 39 points from 25 games.
