Egyptian male and female national teams won medals in the Mediterranean Junior Gymnastics Championships, held in Mersin, Turkey.
The competition, which pit top athletes from around the world against each other, came to an end on June 5.
Egyptian players used the tournament to prepare for the African Junior Championship which will be held in Cairo next month.
They proved their exceptional skills and gained absolute experience.
Players from nine countries, namely Egypt, Turkey, Italy, Algeria, Spain, France, Jordan, Portugal and Morocco, competed in the men’s artistic gymnastics in the competition.
The Egyptian delegation comprised three players, who all medaled, along with their coaches.
Egypt reaped four medals: one gold, two silver and one bronze in the men’s artistic gymnastics games.
Yahya Zakaria ranked first, securing the gold medal in the finals of the pull-up device and the silver medal in the finals of the parallel device.
Also, Abdul Rahman Reda snatched the silver medal in the finals of the pommel horse device.
Moustafa Walid came, meanwhile, in the third place with the bronze medal in the finals of the ground movements.
Egyptian women received three medals in the rhythmic gymnastics competitions.
Alia Osama won the silver medal on the hoop tool and the bronze medal on the ribbon tool. Abeer Ramadan won the bronze medal on the ball tool.
Players from 11 countries participated in the rhythmic gymnastics championship, namely Egypt, France, San Marino, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy, Algeria, Cyprus, Montenegro and Turkey.
President of the Egyptian Gymnastics Federation (EGF), Ehab Amin, praised the national teams for their achievements, especially the women team on such an achievement since it is their first international participation.
Such a tournament, he said, is a perfect chance for juniors to gain international experience and get ready for further contests.
Egypt is to host the African Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships which qualifies for the World Championships and the 2024 Paris Olympics. It will be held in Cairo International Stadium between 16 and 20 July.
It is worth noting that Cairo hosted the 2022 Artistic Gymnastics World Cup between 17 and 21 March. Some 281 participants, representing 34 countries, competed in the tournament, putting their eyes on the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Egypt is now perfectly presented on the global map of the game with great achievements, and also after hosting continental and international tournaments.
Egyptian gymnastics officials hold various positions in the international federation of the game and the African Gymnastics Union.
Amin, for instance, is the President of the African Gymnastics Union.
Egypt participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, for the first time, with 11 male and female athletes.
