LUXOR, Upper Egypt – The 29th Egyptian International Marathon kicked off on Friday morning in Luxor under the patronage and sponsorship of the Youth and Tourism Ministry’s tourism department, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the General Authority for Tourism Promotion and Luxor Governorate.
Some 350 participants of 32 nationalities took part in the international marathon, with the foreigners accounting for 70 percent of the total participants.
This is the oldest race to be held in Africa. The event started at the historic temple of Queen Hatshepsut and goes through multiple ancient locations, such as the temple of Habou, the temple of Amenophis, the Colossi of Memnon, and more.
The marathon received great attention from international media outlets.
Meanwhile, Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi said his ministry is keen to hold different international events and tourism and sports activities in cooperation with various bodies concerned throughout a year to activate the sports tourism and benefit from sports in promoting for Egypt’s tourist and archeological destinations.
