CASABLANCA, Morocco – Egypt’s junior handball team delivered a valiant performance to capture the silver medal at the inaugural IHF Men’s U17 World Championship in Morocco, following a thrilling final showdown against Germany.
The Young Pharaohs fought courageously as regular time ended 37–37 before Germany edged ahead 44–43 in a dramatic overtime finish.

Despite the narrow defeat, Egypt crowned a memorable campaign defined by determination, teamwork, and impressive victories that drew widespread praise.
The achievement came on the same historic day as the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum, attended by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and several world leaders — a moment that brought together the nation’s sporting glory and cultural pride in one remarkable scene.

Though falling just short of the title, the Young Pharaohs’ silver medal in the first-ever edition of the tournament stands as a testament to Egypt’s growing handball legacy and the talent of its rising generation.
Official praise
Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy congratulated the players during a phone call with mission head captain Khaled Fathy, expressing his pride in the team’s performance and unwavering spirit.
“What our sons achieved embodies the Egyptian spirit of challenge and the ability to accomplish the impossible,” Sobhy said.

“We are as proud of their performance at the World Championship as we are of the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum — both reflect Egypt’s heritage and ongoing progress”
Sobhy added that an official reception will be held upon the team’s return to Cairo to honour the players and technical staff for their outstanding achievement, which raised Egypt’s flag high on the global stage.
In other results, Spain claimed bronze with a 35–23 win over Qatar, Argentina secured fifth place after defeating Brazil 39–27, and Tunisia edged the United States 44–41 to finish seventh.
Unbeaten run
Egypt’s 2008-born youth handball team opened their campaign in Morocco in impressive fashion, cruising past Brazil 35–26 before overpowering the USA 42–22. They then sealed top spot in their group with a commanding 32–20 victory over hosts Morocco.

Continuing their fine form, they edged past Spain 31–28 in a thrilling semi-final to book their place in the final against Germany.
Stars shine
Three Egyptian standouts, all born in 2008, shone brightly throughout the tournament, earning best player honors during the team’s unbeaten run.
Zein Ismail claimed the accolade in the opener against Brazil, Yassin Ramadan earned it in the win over the USA, while Yassien Ramadan was named best player twice — in the victory over Morocco and again in the semi-final triumph against Spain.

The Young Pharaohs’ perfect record in the group stage and their semi-final heroics underlined Egypt’s growing dominance in youth handball.
