ABIDJAN — Egyptian male and female fencing athletes won four medals on the opening day of the African Senior Fencing Championships, being held in Côte d’Ivoire from June 1 to 5.
The first day’s competitions featured the men’s individual épée event and the women’s individual foil event.
Mohamed El-Sayed claimed the gold medal after defeating Morocco’s Hossam El-Kord, who took silver, in the final with a score of 15–10.
In the same event, Mahmoud El-Sayed secured the bronze medal after reaching the semi-finals, where he narrowly lost to the Moroccan champion 15–14 by the golden touch.
On the women’s side, Sara Hosny won the gold medal in foil after defeating Côte d’Ivoire’s Maxine Isabelle in the final by a score of 15–14 with the golden touch. Meanwhile, Noha Hany earned the bronze medal after reaching the semifinals and losing by the same score to her Egyptian teammate Sara Hosny.
With these results, Egypt concluded the first day of competition with four medals: two golds and two bronzes.
