Egypt’s shooters topped the list of countries participating in the Arab Shooting Championship with 23 medals in various competitions.
The Egyptian team clinched the first place with 12 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals in the men’s and women’s air pistol and air rifle competitions being held in Cairo and runs until June 12.
Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy lauded Egyptian shooters for their performance, wishing them good luck in the upcoming tournaments.
The UAE national team came second with 14 medals, including 3 golds, 7 silvers and 4 bronzes, while Tunisian shooters ranked third in the table with 4 medals, including 3 golds and one bronze.
As many as 300 shooters from 15 countries are participating in the tournament.
President of the Egyptian Shooting Federation Hazem Hosny said that all participants in the championship were upbeat to visit Egypt, paying tribute to the distinguished discipline seen in the tournament.
On Thursday, Egyptian shooter Hala el-Gohary won a silver medal in the individual 10m air pistol competition, while Egyptian shooter El-Zaharaa Shabaan won silver in the individual 10m rifle category.
The Saudi national team came fourth, with 5 medals, including 1 gold, 3 silvers and 1 bronze.
Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya and Lebanon ranked from fifth to ninth, respectively, and Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Mauritania were at the bottom of the ranking table without achieving any medal.
