SEATTLE (United States) — Egypt’s national football team suffered a major blow after several players sustained injuries during Saturday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup match against Iran.
The Pharaohs advanced to the Round of 32 as runners-up in Group G after securing a 1-1 draw against Iran in their final group-stage match.
During the game, Egypt’s squad was hit by a series of injuries. Defender Mohamed Abdelmonem suffered a knee injury early in the match, specifically in the 13th minute.
In the second half, star forward Mohamed Salah picked up an injury and requested to be substituted. He was replaced by Ahmed Sayed Zizo.
Meanwhile, left-back Ahmed Fattouh completed the match despite suffering an injury after head coach had already used all five substitutions.
The three players—Mohamed Abdelmonem, Mohamed Salah, and Ahmed Fattouh—have joined Egypt’s growing injury list, which already includes Hossam Abdelmaguid and Hamdi Fathi.
Egypt will face Australia in the Round of 32 on July 3 at Dallas Stadium.
