CAIRO — Egyptian gymnastics continues its meteoric rise, seizing the spotlight with a series of standout performances at the 2025 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series and the 2025 African Gymnastics Championship, both recently staged in Cairo.

With world-class talent and unshakable determination, Egypt’s gymnasts dazzled on home soil at the iconic Cairo International Stadium, turning in medal-winning performances that affirmed the nation’s ascent as a true powerhouse in both African and international gymnastics.
World Cup triumphs
At the prestigious FIG World Cup—an elite-level competition featuring over 300 athletes from more than 30 nations—Egypt’s men’s and women’s teams captured a total of five medals, including two gold and three bronze.
This unprecedented haul marked the best-ever performance by an Egyptian delegation in a FIG World Cup event, signaling a new chapter for Egyptian athletes on the international stage.

The gold medal victories came courtesy of Omar Al-Arabi, who reigned supreme on the parallel bars, and Janna Mahmoud, whose elegance and power shone through in the floor exercise.
Sixteen-year-old sensation Judy Abdullah turned heads with her poised and polished routines, earning bronze medals in the vault and parallel bars.
Al-Arabi added further distinction with a bronze on the rings, capping a memorable campaign for Team Egypt.
National pride
Following the team’s success, Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Ashraf Sobhi extended his congratulations via phone call, praising the athletes for their commitment, high-level performance, and for elevating Egypt’s reputation in the global gymnastics’ scene.
Dr. Sobhi lauded the technical excellence and composure exhibited by the athletes, attributing the success to strategic planning, dedicated support systems, and the athletes’ unwavering commitment.

The Minister also hailed Egypt’s successful organisation of the World Cup, one of the largest events of its kind hosted on African soil, and emphasized that the seamless execution underscored Egypt’s standing as a trusted hub for international sports.
African supremacy
The momentum continued at the 2025 African Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship, where Egypt once again commanded the stage, securing eight medals in a show of continental dominance.
Leading the charge was Alia Ahmed, whose grace, athleticism, and precision led her to four gold medals across the hoop, ball and ribbon disciplines.

Alia added a silver medal in the senior individual all-around competition, reinforcing her status as one of the continent’s premier gymnasts.
Mansi and Bahiri further contributed to the medal tally by winning bronze medals in the hoop and ribbon events respectively, reinforcing Egypt’s dominance in rhythmic gymnastics on the continent.
Participating nations included Algeria, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, Namibia, South Africa, Tunisia, and host nation Egypt.
Egypt’s comprehensive medal haul solidified its position as the leading gymnastics power in Africa, setting a benchmark for future continental competitions.
Eyes on Los Angeles
Reacting to the exceptional performances, Dr. Ihab Amin, President of both the Egyptian and African Gymnastics Federations, hailed the results as “a historic leap” for the sport in Egypt.
He described the medal haul as a stepping stone toward an even greater goal: Egypt’s first-ever Olympic gymnastics medal at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

“These results confirm that Egyptian gymnastics is not just participating—it is competing to win on the world stage,” Dr. Amin remarked.
He underscored that these achievements are the product of well-structured development plans, unwavering institutional support, and a unified vision between technical and administrative bodies. “We are rewriting the global narrative of Egyptian gymnastics,” he affirmed.
Strategic vision
Minister Sobhi echoed Dr. Amin’s sentiments, pointing to the state’s continued investment in sports infrastructure, youth development, and international exposure as critical drivers of progress.
The Egyptian official highlighted the country’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for major global championships, thanks to its top-tier facilities, logistical capabilities, and a deepening sports culture.

He reaffirmed the Egyptian state’s full commitment to supporting the gymnastics movement and empowering the next generation of champions.
Beyond medals
Egypt’s gymnastics surge is more than a tale of podium finishes—it is a reflection of national ambition, sustained excellence, and a deep-rooted commitment to athletic distinction.

With a strong foundation, a forward-looking strategy, and a wave of young talent making their mark, Egypt is positioning itself as a formidable force on the global gymnastics circuit.
As the athletes continue to soar, they carry with them the hopes of a nation—and inspire the belief that with vision, effort, and unity, greatness is not only possible, but inevitable.
