CAIRO — Egypt’s Under-17 sabre team continued their rise the global stage after capturing the gold medal at the European Union Championship in Poland, a landmark victory that highlights the rapid growth of fencing in the country.
The young squad dominated the competition with a series of commanding performances. Standout athletes Khadija Abu Alam, Anan Hijazi, Rawda Hamad, and Rital Al-Daksh were pivotal in driving the team to victory, delivering precision, speed, and tactical brilliance that secured this historic triumph.
The win adds another prestigious accolade to the Egyptian Fencing Federation’s expanding record and reinforces the country’s presence among the world’s emerging fencing powers.

The milestone comes ahead of an eagerly anticipated event on home soil: the Junior and Cadet Sabre Fencing World Cup (Under-20 and Under-17), set to take place from January 29 to February 1 at the Cairo International Stadium Sports Complex.
A diverse list of nations has confirmed their attendance, including major fencing powers from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, reflecting the tournament’s global appeal and competitive depth.
The tournament is already attracting global attention, with 53 countries confirmed and numbers expected to surpass 60.

The preparations build on last year’s highly successful edition in the New Capital, which earned accolades for its world-class facilities and flawless organisation.
With momentum firmly on their side and the global spotlight on Cairo, Egypt’s next generation of sabre fencers is poised to continue its impressive ascent on the international stage.
